Paul McGinley’s Biography

Having spent 5 years at college and University in Dublin and San Diego, prior to his career in golf, Paul has a degree in International Business and a diploma in Marketing.

He has been playing on the European Tour for more than 25 years. Although best known for his performances in team competitions, Paul won several tournaments and is a former top 20 world ranked player. He and Padraig Harrington won the World Cup for Ireland in 1997. Paul has been on the winning side in 13 out of the 14 occasions that he represented Europe as player, Vice-Captain & Captain. He captained Europe to a highly memorable Ryder Cup victory over America at Gleneagles in Scotland.

This achievement resulted in many awards. Paul was named Coach of the Year at the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year event. He became the first sportsman to be honoured as an Executive Fellow at London Business School. He currently plays a limited golfing schedule and spends much of his time broadcasting for Sky Sports, doing ambassadorial work representing his many business partners, engaging in golf course design as well... Paul and his family set up The McGinley Foundation in 2013 when Paul was announced as 2014 European Ryder Cup Captain. The Foundation was his official Captain’s Charity and the chosen charities he supported during his Captaincy were Amber, Clic Sargent, Society of St Vincents de Paul and The Tour Players Charity. All charitable time and energy are driven through Paul's foundation only.
